September 20, 2008
On Saturday September 20th 2008, the Fruitport Fire Department conducted a live fire training drill. After months of planning, the Fire Department acquired and old abandon house destined to be demolished and used it for fire suppression training. The Fire Department trains on a monthly basis on various topics and likes to make it’s scenarios as “life like” as possible while maintaining a safe and controlled environment. Two bedrooms inside the abandon home were lit at separate times allowing entry teams to locate and extinguish the flames. The third and final set of the living room was a great opportunity for our recruit firefighters to learn and understand the development of fire inside a structure. Upon request of the property owners, a garage approximately 10 feet away from the structure was fully preserved and protected from flames. This type of training exercise plays a crucial role in developing the skills needed to perform our jobs properly.
